It seemed like the New York Yankees were bracing for the worst and preparing themselves for life without free-agent second baseman Robinson Cano. Cano’s trip to Seattle to meet with the Mariners this week certainly didn’t ease their mind, either.
Now it seems like the Yankees probably had good reason to worry about Cano’s potential departure as it is now being reported that Cano has agreed to terms on a contract with the Mariners.
According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN who was one of the first to break the news, the deal is worth $240 million over the next 10 seasons, pending a physical that will take place on Monday.
Though you might have to question giving a 31-year-old such a lengthy contract, bringing a bon-a-fide star like Cano to Seattle is huge for that organization. We all know that they have had a rough go of it in recent years, but Cano is a piece that can really help to start turning things around.
